This is not to say any other port or asset pack has done some kind of superior job, but ultimately this stuff in DP is worth only the novelty and I can't imagine someone breathing a sigh of relief after playing the original game on release and then 'upgrading' to this. Darkplaces and the various upscale packs for it always struck me as heavily amateurish if not lazy.Īnd of course, it all runs awfully while consisting of a bunch of flat geometry with high def tapestries stapled to it.

And whatever is going on with the sounds failed to even attempt to emulate what the original files were like. Original weapons like the SSG and Thunderbolt actually have more detail on them (showing detailed grooves around the 'hammers' for the former and arcs coming off the side coils for the latter).
